Tokimeki Memorial (と き め き メ モ リ ア ル) is a Dating Simulation-type series (commonly referred to as "dating simulation") developed and published by Konami. Started in 1994 on PC Engine, it quickly established itself as the most representative of its kind. Very popular and respected in Japan, this series has never left the archipelago, however, like the majority of games with similar gameplay.
The gameplay revolves around two distinct phases. The first is to plan your meetings and develop your abilities in high school as well as in sports, with the main objective of becoming more attractive. This phase of the game is mainly browsed through menus with a set of statistics at the edge of the screen. Just like in any RPG, these allow you to visualize the areas in which the playable protagonist excels the most. At each round, it is possible to choose the activity that will take place during the day or the week. It will later increase certain skills, including intelligence, physical conditioning, sociability or charisma.
The second part allows you to directly rub shoulders with various female protagonists during specific sequences, during which the player will have to interact through a dialog box offering a choice of several answers or sentences to pronounce. These have a considerable impact on the evolution of the conversation and will also have positive or negative repercussions on the affinity between the character played by the player and his contender, depending on the branch of dialogue borrowed. Therefore, it is often necessary to do it twice in order to obtain the desired result and favorably progress the gauge of appreciation vis-à-vis the hero assigned to his interlocutor.
