The legend is reborn

It is the forerunner of many aspects of modern video gaming, including open-world exploration, and was the game that invented the limited-time event, better known as the "Quick Time Event" (QTE).

It was also one of the first games to feature a persistent open world with day / night cycles, weather changes, opening and closing stores with NPCs moving around at will. Its epic and gripping story and vibrant world have created a generation of die-hard fans and the game is featured heavily in the list of “Greatest Games of All Time”.

A quest for revenge

In 1986, the young apprentice in ju-jitsu, Ryo Hazuki, returned to the dojo of his father, Iwao Hazuki, who was assassinated before his eyes by the mysterious Lan Di. Lan Di steals a legendary artifact known as the Dragon's Mirror. Ryo then swears to avenge his father's death and follows in Lan Di's footsteps.

The first game in the Shenmue series chronicles the beginning of Ryo's journey. The latter roams the city of Yokosuka in Japan to collect clues about the murder of his father and must, along the way, confront ruthless gangsters and organizations.

In the sequel Shenmue II, Ryo's quest continues in Hong Kong, China. Ryo further explores the criminal world and meets martial arts masters who will help him along his journey and offer him crucial information regarding his father's murder. Ryo will then have to unravel the mysteries of the Dragon mirror which his father had kept secret.
