DOCK, SPLIT, and FORM UP!
Pilot three ships and free the solar system from the clutches of evil in this free-form shooting game!
PlatinumGames’ NEO-CLASSIC ARCADE series carries on the spirit and fun of classic gaming using modern technology, and the first project in this endeavor is Sol Cresta. Sol Cresta takes the docking and formation strategies of classic shooting games Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta and elevates them with the “free-form docking” system. The flagship Yamato, composed of the ships Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano can utilize various attacks depending on how the three ships are aligned. Docking, splitting, and reforming the ships as needed is the key to defeating the invading armies of Mandler.
During the invasion of the solar system, humanity suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Mandler. Losing the moon and forced to leave Earth, humans were forced to retreat to Laomedia, the 12th moon of Neptune. With what hope they had left, they formed the SOL CRESTA solar reconquest squad, and placed the fate of the solar system in the hands of the Yamato, a state-of-the-art docking battleship.
- Docking in free formation
The Yamato is made up of 3 ships. You'll only have one ship at first, but choose the right object and other ships will appear to help you! Dock and separate them to modify the properties of your attacks and use different formations to gain access to a formidable arsenal.
- The adrenalin of 80s classics
Sol Cresta's music was created by legendary chiptune composer Yuzo Koshiro. The game also pays tribute to the sounds and graphics of the previous Cresta series, bringing arcade fever back to life and taking it beyond mere nostalgia. There's even a time limit, a high score 'Caravan' mode, and online leaderboards.
- PlatinumGames' new challenge
What if PlatinumGames, developers of satisfying, action-packed games like Bayonetta, tried their hand at shooting games? Here's the answer. The graphics are classic, but the originality and depth of the systems and gameplay make for a refreshingly immersive experience that gets richer the more you play.
