The big bang

After destroying a research center on Earth following a failed experiment, a young scientist named Trace wakes up in a strange biomechanical world called Sudra. In this nightmarish realm live surreal mixes of corrupted lifeforms and towering technological structures, forgotten there by an incredibly advanced alien race long ago.

Sudra has from time immemorial been abandoned by all traces of cohesive and peaceful civilization. The Rusalki, a race of huge machines with a consciousness reside beneath the planet's surface, protect it from malicious invaders. Trace quickly learns that the Rusalki scholars are wasting away, and that their fate is intertwined with the fate of the entire universe.

Alone, you travel through a vast interconnected world, making use of your weapons to recompose the puzzle of the mysterious history of the planet using the clues scattered throughout this isolated world.

Axiom Verge is heavily inspired by the exploration aspect that characterizes classic adventure games of the 16-bit era. This handy tool can affect certain enemies and environments in unexpected ways: creatures firing missiles can be altered to fill your health bar, or ascending air bubbles can be turned into solid platforms for you to climb onto.

Change your surroundings even further with the unlockable Passcode Tool, this very useful gadget allows you to drastically change the laws that govern the world around you. By entering certain codes, most of which are scattered around the world, Trace will be able to jump even higher, shoot faster, or even read Sudra's ancestral languages. The Wii U GamePad's touchscreen lets you type in codes and immediately see their effects without having to pause the game.
