Panzer Dragoon Saga (ＡＺＥＬ - パ ン ツ ァ ー ド ラ グ ー ン ＲＰＧ-, Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG?) Is a role-playing video game released exclusively for Saturn in 1998. The game was developed by Team Andromeda and published by Sega. It is part of the Panzer Dragoon franchise, of which it represents the third and final installment on Saturn.


Set chronologically a few years after the first episode, Panzer Dragoon, the story takes place in a quarry where the Empire began excavations in order to find the secrets of the ancients. The hero of the game, Edge, along with his companions, find themselves attacked by a monster that has risen from the depths, and it's when they come to grips with it that traitors to the Empire, led by Craymen, arrive and kill everything. the world except Edge.

Continuing the excavations, they discover a young girl imprisoned in the stone, and our hero finds himself wounded, unconscious at the bottom of a cave. It is then that he comes to his senses that swarms of monsters attack him and he owes his salvation to the appearance of the mythical dragon, who takes him on his back.

On the back of a dragon, combat phases follow one another in a role-playing style, in a very dynamic and innovative style, notably with research phases (objects, characters, etc.).

It also happens to the hero to descend from his dragon, in the evening to sleep or at any time of the day to visit villages to buy spells and weapons, continue his quest or train his dragon (for the latter point, the player has the choice between several interactions, which will influence the behavior of the dragon throughout the game).

The game fits on 4 CDs and benefits from a very elaborate packaging.
